A great place to play: The Stuart C. Siegel Center
March 29, 2012
When campers play basketball at Shaka Smart Basketball Camps, they play on the VCU Rams home court, the Verizon Wireless Arena at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. Yes, the same court that’s home to the 2012 Colonial Athletic Association champs is also home to the region’s premiere basketball instructional camp.
The newly-renovated arena boasts six full basketball courts, along with another full court in the auxiliary gymnasium for a total of 32,000 square feet of wood floor perfect for young hoopsters.
The modern venue, along with the dedicated staff are the top assets of Shaka Smart Basketball Camps, said Mike Morrell, director of basketball operations at the camp and at VCU.
The 13-year-old Siegel Center seats 7,200 people and hosts more than 200 events each year, including numerous basketball tournaments, including the 2012 Virginia High School League’s State Basketball Championships. Conveniently located steps from downtown Richmond and blocks from Interstate-64, the Siegel Center is a comfortable, safe, accessible, basketball-friendly environment designed for all levels of play from elementary through college.
Coaches and camp counselors can easily see participants from a variety of vantage points, making it the perfect basketball learning environment.
